Academic
Advising | | ... | |
| Every
student in the program is advised by one of the two full time counselors/advisors.
Students meet with advisors for academic assistance with major and course selection.
Advisors discuss college academic policies regarding attendance, probation, and
dismissals. | | Students
are encouraged to see their advisor/counselor as often as they need. There are
several points in the semester where students are asked to meet with their advisor.
These times are to discuss the following: - Four
week evaluations - an academic progress evaluation completed by CAP instructors
during the fourth week of the semester to indicate the progress of participants
in the following areas: class attendance and participation, attentiveness, ability
to pass essays, and quizzes, assessment of counselor or tutor interventions.
- Midterm
warnings - an assessment of students' academic progress at the eighth week of
the semester whereby the instructor indicates whether or not a student is earning
a grade of a D or F. Each student is mailed a midterm warning to his/her mailing
address of record.
- Twelve
week evaluations - an academic progress evaluation completed during the twelfth
week of the semester when the instructor indicates the progress of the participants
in the same areas as the four-week evaluations and whether or not the CAP participant
is prepared for the next level course.

| In
addition, students come in to meet with their advisor to discuss the courses they
plan to take for the subsequent semester. The advisor outlines with the students,
the courses that they need in a particular program area in to graduate. | |
