Events: - CAP
Open House-Designed to help new students adjust to the demands of college
life and get a head start on a successful college career. All new CAP students
and parents are invited to attend the two-hour, mini orientation. At the Open
House, students can interact with other new students, become familiar with CAP
staff and services, and learn important information from representatives from
the financial aid and admissions offices.
- Cultural
Coffee House-Encourages students' social involvement in the College. The Coffeehouse
features the musical, vocal, instrumental, poetic and dance talents of the Myers
community. Everyone is invited to attend.
- Year-End
Recognition Ceremony- CAP's biggest annual event. Recognizes the outstanding
achievements of CAP staff, faculty, and students. This year's program included
a fashion show featuring Myers students.
Sample
Workshops Provided: - AIDS/HIV
A candid discussion about the risks associated with unprotected sex, and dispels
the myths surrounding the prevention, spread, and the effects of HIV and AIDS.
- Drug
& Alcohol Awareness
Educates students about the dangers of drug and
alcohol abuse. Stresses drinking responsibly and provides alternatives to drinking
alcohol. - Financial
Aid
Presented in conjunction with Myers office of Financial Aid. Provides
information on scholarships, loans, and grants that fund college students. Discusses
the importance of meeting application deadlines and completing the Free Application
for Student Financial Aid. - Graduate
School
Prepares students for entry into graduate school. Discusses admission
requirements, entrance exams, and financing a graduate education. - "What's
Love Got to Do With It?"
A relationship workshop structured in a
talk show format. Students have the opportunity to discuss issues like love, sex,
marriage, children, and knowing the signs of healthy and unhealthy relationships.
