The CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ is today the certification of choice for the financial planning profession.  To achieve this certification and become certified by the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc. applicants must pass a 10-hour comprehensive examination covering the fundamentals of financial planning: insurance, income tax, retirement, investments and estate planning.  In addition, applicants must provide evidence of appropriate work experience and must agree to adhere to the Code of Ethics and Professional Responsibilities. The curriculum at Myers University offers qualified individuals excellent preparation for the rigorous CFP® Certification Examination.*   

The Curriculum:
Five key areas to fulfill the education requirement at Myers University:
  Insurance Planning
  Investment Management
  Tax Accounting Principles
  Financial Planning for Retirement 
  Estate Planning

This is not an exam prep course. It fulfills the education requirement for CFP® certification.

Two Financial Planning Options:

The Certificate in Financial Planning:
This program is for individuals who may already be in the financial services industry but wish to qualify for the CFP® Certification Examination.  This program is also opened to individuals seeking to make a career change. The certificate will be awarded upon completion of the five core courses.  However, credit may be awarded for up to two courses based on a student's experience and education.

Bachelor of Science in Business Administration
This program is designed for students who wish to complete the bachelor's degree program with a specialization in Financial Planning.  To achieve the B.S. degree, the individual must have earned 120 credit hours, 15 hours (5 courses) of which are specifically required in the financial planning curriculum.

Both programs will thoroughly prepare the student for the CFP® Certification Examination leading to the CFP certification.*

 

Class Locations:
Depending on demand, classes will be offered at the downtown Cleveland campus (admissions office) as well as the academic sites in Brecksville and Eastlake. All classes meet once a week for three hours in 10-week sessions.
