Standards
of Satisfactory Academic Progress
Federal
Regulations require that David N. Myers University review, at least
annually, the academic progress of students. The Financial Aid Office
reviews each student’s academic progress after each term for
which the student is enrolled. This rule applies to every student whether
or not financial assistance is received.
Programs
Affected:
Federal Pell Grant
Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)
Federal Work-Study Program (FWS)
Federal Perkins Loan
Federal Stafford Loans, Subsidized and Unsubsidized
Federal PLUS Loan
Institutional Aid (scholarships and grant-in-aid)
Programs
Not Affected:
Ohio Instructional Grant
Part-time Instructional Grant
Ohio Student Choice Grant
Financial
Aid will be awarded based on the following enrollment criteria:
Academic
Enrollment Status:
12 or more credit hours = full-time
9 - 11 credit hours = three quarter time
6 - 8 credit hours = half-time
1 - 5 credit hours = less than half-time
Freshmen
= 0 - 29 earned credit hours
Sophomore = 30 - 59 earned credit hours
Junior = 60 - 89 earned credit hours
Senior = 90+ earned credit hours
There are three basic standards of academic progress that aid recipients must
attain and maintain to continue to qualify for federal aid.
1.) Percentage Completion:
Freshmen students (0-30 credit hours attempted) must complete a minimum of
50% of the total credit hours attempted. Students who have at least 31 credit
hours must complete a minimum of 75% of the total hours attempted.
Percentage completion will be calculated by dividing earned hours by attempted
hours:
Earned credit hours include grades of:
A, A-, B+, B, B-, C+, C, C-, D+, D.
(PA and audit hours will not count towards eligibility for federal aid.)
Attempted credit hours include grades of:
A, A-, B+, B, B-, C+, C, C-, D+, D, F, MG, W, I.
Students attending only one semester will be evaluated on one semester's work.
2.) Grade Point Average:
Your cumulative grade point average must be equal to, or higher than, the standard
established by David N. Myers University. The minimum specific requirements
are as follows:

3.) Maximum
Time Frame:
Students pursuing a Bachelor's or Associate's Degree or a Certificate may be
considered for federal aid to a maximum of up to 150 percent of the hours required
to obtain that degree or certificate.
A student who fails to maintain/attain all three of the above standards of
progress in a given term is placed on probation for the following term. The
student is sent an “Aid in Jeopardy” letter advising them that
they have one probation term to come back into compliance on all standards.
The student is still eligible to receive federal funds during this probation
term. After the probation term, if all three standards are not met, the student
will lose federal aid eligibility. The Financial
Aid Office will notify
the student in writing (“Aid Denied” letter) and provide an appeal
form for the student’s use.
To Reinstate Financial Aid Eligibility:
Complete the number of hours you are deficient or the number of hours required
to improve your GPA to college requirements at your own expense. When these
hours are completed, you must notify the Financial Aid Office so that your
eligibility for aid can be reconsidered. Upon verification of the completed
hours or improved GPA, your financial aid will be reconsidered for reinstatement.
While taking courses at your own expense, you must continue to make progress,
which means you may not withdraw or fail courses, which would put you further
behind in the standards requirement.
OR
Complete the Standards of Satisfactory Progress Appeal Form, which is available
from One-Stop Student Services on the First Floor of the Public Square Campus.
Be sure to attach complete third party documentation as indicated on the form.
Mail the completed Standards of Satisfactory Progress Appeal Form and all documentation
to the Financial
Aid Office.
Appeals are processed in the order in which they are received in the Financial
Aid Office. Appeals submitted without the proper third party documentation
will be returned to you. You will be notified by mail whether your appeal has
been granted or denied.
When academic
standard requirements are not met and while a student is making up
hours or improving GPA to regain eligibility for federal aid, possible
options for financial assistance are as follows:
1. State Grants - (Ohio Instructional Grant, part-time Instructional Grant, & Ohio
Student Choice Grant)
2. College installment payment plan
3. Reduction of hours during the semester - Students are encouraged to review
their financial aid status when any of the following circumstances occurs:
(see Withdrawals for further information)
- One or more
classes are dropped
- Partial withdrawal from classes
- Complete withdrawal from the classes
- Dismissal from the University
Availability of Campus-based and Institutional Aid:
A student who is making up hours will not be considered for campus-based
or institutional aid until coursework is completed.
It cannot be guaranteed that
campus-based or institutional aid funds will be available when
eligibility is regained.
