What if I am an AOL User?

The AOL browser is not compatible with Blackboard. This may cause students to be kicked off Blackboard without warning. Keep this in mind because many of the tests or quizzes that you will take can only be completed the first time. If you have AOL and you are taking that important test or quiz there is a great chance that you will be kicked off and locked out of your test. A way to avoid this problem is to:

1. Connect to the Internet like you normally would
2. After connection, minimize the AOL page.
3. Click on the Internet Explorer button. Make sure that it is Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher.
4. Log into Blackboard and proceed with your course like you normally would.
5. AOL Users: If there are any problems please call the Online Learning Center at (216) 361-2765

How do I log into Blackboard?

To log into Blackboard, first go to http://dnmc.blackboard.com and click the "Login" button. You will be asked for a username and password. The username is your first initial and your last name. There are no spaces and it is all lowercase. Your password is your nine digit student ID number. Again, do not put in any spaces, dashes, etc. If you are having trouble or have forgotten your password, please contact the Online Learning Center at (216) 361-2765.

How do I learn how to use Blackboard?

First, if you are a new user make sure you request a new student packet.  You can request it through the Online Academic Advisor at online@myers.edu. Second, you can attend a training session.  A training session will be held before the start of the term.  The next date is to be announced. Third, you can call the online learning center to schedule a one-on-one training session. Fourth, there is also a help section located in your online course under the "OLC/HELP" button and on our website.

Common log-in problems.

Sometimes if you have a common last name your ID maybe slightly different.  There might be a one or two after it, for example, "jsmith", "jsmith1", "jsmith2". Also, remember that your password is your student ID number (social security number) without any spaces or dashes.

If you have changed your password and have forgotten it, please call the Online Learning Center immediately at (216) 361-2765.

Notice there are four tabs at the top of the announments. To view past announcements that you might have missed click on the appropriate tab.

How do I know if I submitted my homework through the digital drop box?

There are two steps to submitting your homework in the digital drop box. Click here.

Why doesn't my e-mail address appear on the class roster?

To make your e-mail address visible, click "Personal Information" in the Tools area of the navigation area. Click "Set Privacy Options," choose the information that you would like to make visible to others. Then click submit.

How do I change and update my personal information?

1. Click on the "Tools" button located in the navigation area.
2. Click "Personal Information."

How do I print a document, like my syllabus, from inside my course?

Printing you syllabus is a very important part of your online course. This will make everything available within hands reach. Click on "Syllabus" located in the navigation area.

There are two ways to print documents if you are using Internet Explorer:

While viewing the document, click on the document you want to print and go to "File" and select "Print Preview". Choose "Only the selected frame" from the pull-down menu.

Another way is by right-clicking on the link to the document (i.e. do not actually open the document) and select "print target" from the context-sensitive menu.

If you are using Netscape: click on the document and press the "Print" button.

I have posted a file, but no one can open it.

Make certain that the file name does not contain any character other than the standard letters, numbers, hyphens, and underscores. Other characters (apostrophes, etc.) in the names may cause people who try to access the posted file to get an error message "Requested file could not be found."

Problems with text editing.

Can't right-click and copy/paste text in the editing window?

There is a way to work around this. Use the keyboard shortcuts to copy, paste, and cut text. To copy text in the editing window, select it and use Ctrl -Insert or Ctrl-C. To paste text, use Shift-Insert or Ctrl-V. To cut text, use Ctrl-X.

I cannot get back into my test!

Error message on submit:

Make certain that you hit the "save" or "submit" button only once. Double-clicking may cause an error message and may delay submission of your answers.

You click on the quiz, but nothing happens:

You may need to turn off your pop-up blocker software.

When you try to access an online quiz, you get a message saying that you have already taken it.

Depending on your PC and Internet connection speed, it may take a little while to load a quiz. Make sure that when accessing a quiz you only click the link once. If you click a second time, you may find yourself locked out.

Do not resize your screen after entering the quiz. Some browsers will refresh the screen when you resize the window.

How do I view my grades?

To view your grades:

  • Click on "Tools" located in the navigation area.
  • Select "View Grades."

How do I complete the course evaluation?
