A slow computer can be caused by numerous things:

  • Not enough memory:
    • The memory Windows refers to as "Virtual Memory" is also called RAM. To be sure you have enough RAM and other system specifications, please see the System Requirements for taking an online course under the Students section. This can also be affected by installed Spyware and Adware
  • Slow Hard Drive or no space available in hard drive: It is reccomended that you have at least 15% of space left on the hard drive for files to be allocated quicker.
  • Fragmented Files: Fragmented files will slow down your Hard Drive's seek time. A slow seek time, means a slow allocating time. A slow allocating time means a slow computer. Go here to learn how to defragment your Hard Drive.
  • Outdated Processor: We reccomend a 1GHz computer with at least 128 Megabytes of RAM.
